Pete Whitehouse

Painting / 3D Design

My current body of work is based on a study of the coastal landscape of the Rame Peninsula in southeast Cornwall, known as the “forgotten corner.” I paint plein-air, using acrylic on a primed board. My process involves distilling the scene into basic tonal forms. Starting with the largest shape then proceeding to the smallest, ensuring all successive forms tonally relate to the first. Working in this structured way helps me decipher the moods and beauty of nature and portray them in a direct and honest manner.

When not painting outdoors, I’m based in Studio 5 General Office. I continue to explore my practice as a tonal artist through the rigor of still life. Humble objects are my subject matter, again, I try to portray the natural play of light and form in a frank and truthful way.

Studio 5 is my creative sanctuary and provides an ideal space for the development of my future work as a multidisciplinary artist.
