Anthony Hughes

Artist / Educator / Archivist

Anthony worked as a commercial artists/Illustrator after studying Technical Illustration at Bournville College of Art. His training was a very traditional academic, almost Victorian one which resonated with the founding of the Arts & Crafts origins of Ruskin Hall, founded in the early 1900’. Afterwards, he studied a degree in Fine Art: Painting at Stourbridge College of Art, utilising his drafting skills and approach to line that has stayed part of his work ever since. In the last year, he has again returned to creating artworks, prints and illustration designs that focus on themes of landscape, folklore and align to his music, writing and photography. He is head of Cultural Collections & Archives at BCU, where, amongst the near three quarters of a million items, he oversees the paintings, sculptures and archives for Birmingham School of Art and Bournville School of Art.
