‘The period of intense activity that is covered by these works spans roughly five years. The culmination and expression of ideas up to that point.
What do you need to know to help orient yourself in these works?
Firstly, I would tell you that these images are the result of a childhood rooted in a small area between The Wordsley school, Buckpool Nature Reserve and Ridge Hill’s former hospital.
Secondly, they are the result of a particular imagination – one which has always created stories, characters, creatures, atmospheric settings and magical happenings.
The industrial heritage and urban nature of this area is frequently discussed and researched, however things of a more poetic nature are often overlooked – in the same way that fairy tales became the realm of children, especially those with their ‘heads in the clouds’.
Presented here are paintings and drawings which are inspired by imaginings, hints at remembered things, inventions and secrets’. – DM
